Southern Diagnostic Laboratories opens location at Brookwood Medical Center

– BIRMINGHAM, AL, July 6, 2010 Southern Diagnostic Laboratories announces the opening of a new patient service center in the Professional Office Building on the campus of Brookwood Medical Center. The center is staffed with skilled personnel who provide high quality patient care and are specialized in specimen collection and handling.

The new Southern Diagnostic Laboratories Patient Service Center is located in Suite 111 of the Professional Office Building and is open to patients from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays.

The Brookwood location is the ninth patient service center for the Birmingham-based pathology and clinical laboratory. The company has offices across Alabama, as well as in Georgia and Mississippi.

– South Shore Resources Inc.’s (SSHO.PK) completed testing of its HyProStar Series of Hydrogen Generating Modules in Farmington Hills, Michigan. The objective of the testing was to evaluate the impact that the HyProStar has on fuel economy and fuel efficiency.

The MPG Testing was recorded and completed both with and without the HyProStar Unit installed. There was a 20.23% fuel savings per Gallon when the Unit was installed. The results of the testing indicate that on the vehicle the HyProStar was installed has increased both fuel economy and fuel efficiency. South Shore believes its HyProStar Series of Hydrogen Generating Modules are an obvious aftermarket alternative to Rising Fuel Prices. In fact the HyProStar should be an ad on to new models.

– On Saturday August 7, Kent State University Museum’s MOVIE DATE WITH KATE regional film series joins with PlayhouseSquare’s “Cinema at the Square” at the Palace Theatre in co-presenting a 2 p.m. screening of the classic Spencer Tracy-Katharine Hepburn comedy “Adam’s Rib” (1949).

– If a hurricane  tracks in our direction, it may be more powerful, because of elevated ocean temperatures, explained Ted Fisch, NYS Office of Emergency Management. We were both attending the Long Island Pine Barrens’ recent Law Enforcement Council meeting.

I was thinking about wildfires and our most recent drought, and not about hurricanes, nor about their impact on the Pine Barrens. Only later, did I realize that Ray would have wanted Ted to say more, …

And so I looked into it …..

When temperatures remain above 80 degrees, hurricanes that track into this region are apt to intensify and could result in a much more powerful storm. It’s an unusually dangerous condition, said Ken Ettlinger, Meteorology Professor at Suffolk County Community College.

Ken then helped me find NOAA’s most recent sea surface temperature data. Our  water ocean temperatue is about 3 degrees higher than it is  for this time of year, based on averages over a period of twenty years. Take a look at the map below and all those hot color temperatures.
